Do I Need a UV Air Purifier?

UV-lampThe only answer that we can give you without assessing your unique situation is a very general “maybe.” Not every home is going to require UV air purifiers. Even those homes that benefit from the use of air filtration systems or electronic air cleaners may be fine without the use of UV air purifiers in Madera, CA. That being said, those homes that can benefit from UV air cleaners really benefit from them. In certain conditions, the positive effects of using these products, such as UV germicidal lights are simply monumental.

Keep the following information in mind when next you take stock of the overall indoor air quality in your home. If you suspect that UV germicidal lights may be a good addition to your IAQ system, give a member of our team a call. We can discuss your concerns, recommend products, and, of course, complete your UV air purifier installation and services with the skill and expertise that has come to define our services.

What Are UV Germicidal Lights?

UV, or ultraviolet, germicidal lights/lamps are devices that are installed right into the ductwork of an HVAC system. These lights simply emit UV light waves. If you’ve ever been to a concert and seen your white clothes glow bright or, for that matter, had a bad sunburn, then you are already familiar with UV light rays in some form. These lamps are used in order to destroy pollutants in your home — more specifically, they are used to destroy biological pollutants.

What Is the Concern with Biological Pollutants?

Unlike, say, dust and dirt, biological pollutants cannot really just be filtered out of the air in your home. The filters that would be necessary to remove these pollutants effectively would likely be too efficient to work well with your HVAC system. Plus, there is the matter of reproduction to consider.

Biological pollutants, which may include viruses, mold, and bacteria, are living microorganisms. That means that they are capable of reproducing. This in turn means that, even if you were able to successfully filter out or trap these pollutants, they could continue to grow in numbers.

That is why pollutant destruction, as opposed to removal, is the way to go when it comes to biological pollutants. The UV rays emitted by these purifiers disrupt biological pollutants’ molecular processes. It renders them incapable of reproducing at all and/or destroys them entirely. That means that you don’t have to worry about trapped pollutants continuing to multiply.

UV Germicidal Lights: A Great Supplement, but not Replacement, for Air Filters/Cleaners

If you do decide that UV germicidal lights are right for your home, just remember that they should be used in conjunction with more traditional air filters or air purifiers. UV air purifiers are not going to remove pollutants like dust and dirt from the air, and these should not be left free to float around your living space. If you have any questions or are ready to take your indoor air quality to the next level, give us a call any time.
